Ultra-Hydrating Moisturizer

Applies like a gel but hydrates like a cream — this moisturizer helps smooth, soften, and restore your skin’s moisture barrier.

DAILY AM & PM: ULTRA-GENTLE CLEANSER
  • Use twice daily, morning and night.
  • Wash your whole face, avoiding eye area.
  • Apply a generous amount to dampened skin and gently massage with fingertips for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
DAILY PM: ADAPALENE GEL 0.1%
  • Use once daily, in the evenings.
  • Clean the skin gently and pat dry before applying.
  • Cover the entire affected area with a thin layer.
  • Children under 12 years of age: ask your doctor.

  • Apply daily, as needed, to alleviate dryness.

Ultra-Gentle Cleanser

NOTE: It is HIGHLY recommended that you use a moisturizer following your use of Adapalene Gel. If your skin is sensitive, you can apply the moisturizer before the Adapalene Gel.

Your first six weeks using proactivmd a week-by-week guide

It won't happen to everyone, but it is worth mentioning retinization, the adjustment period in which the skin becomes acclimated to Adapalene Gel. During this time skin may become red, flaky and irritated. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you use a moisturizer to help relieve symptoms of retinization which typically begin to subside around week 4 of your retinoid treatment.

 
Week 1
  • You may start noticing skin improvements
  • You’ll notice the lightweight, fast-absorbing Adapalene gel is the perfect acne addition to your new skincare regimen and you may even notice your skin’s new glow

Pro Tip: Some users may notice a reaction. Just be patient with your skin right now as it’s undergoing a lot of changes. Also be sure to stay moisturized and use sunscreen.

Week 2
  • You may start to see a reduction in acne.
  • You may start seeing results at the 2 week mark, but if not, stick with it!
  • If your skin is feeling a bit dry, irritated or flakey, it's completely normal. It's called retinization and it simply means that your skin is adjusting to Adapalene Gel. Keep calm and Adapalene on. Your skin will thank you for it.

Pro Tip: If you’re one of the people who feel dry, be sure to use a moisturizer. Just make sure it’s one that doesn’t contain an active acne ingredient.

Week 3
  • Your acne is continuing to clear
  • Your skin should start feeling acclimated to Adapalene, but some individuals may continue to feel dryness or irritation. Adapalene is working hard behind the scenes to unclog pores

Reminder: Protect your new, healthy-looking skin with sunscreen each and every day.

Week 4
  • You may be starting to see real results
  • If you’re still having breakouts they are most likely less frequent and less painful
  • Any symptoms of retinization should begin to subside if they haven't already.

Reminder: Ready to head off to school or work? Did you moisturize and put on sunscreen? If not, apply some now!

Week 5
  • Your skin is starting to feel smoother and more even-toned
  • Breakouts are continuing to diminish

Reminder: We can’t stress it enough: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Use an SPF moisturizer by day and a light moisturizer without an acne active at night.

Week 6
  • You’re starting to see the clear-skin results you were after and, guess what, it can only get better!
  • Now you’re in "maintenance mode" so keep up with your ProactivMD regimen daily. Remember, acne has no cure but you can keep your skin looking and feeling healthy if you stick to the routine.
  • Don’t give up! You’re on the path to clear skin. Most people will see a significant difference around the 12-week mark, so keep it up! You’re doing great!

You may experience retinization and it’s ok

Some, but not all users may experience dryness, redness, irritation - known as retinization -- while your skin adjusts to Adapalene Gel. The best defense is to generously hydrate with a moisturizer both day and night as part of your skincare regimen.

Retinization is a normal part of the process and side effects typically start to subside by Week 4.
