After 30 years as a prescription-only acne-fighter, the retinoid Adapalene takes center stage in our newest innovation – ProactivMD, the complete healthy skin regimen which includes cleansing, toning, hydration and sun protection, all in one easy-to-use, benzoyl peroxide-free system.
ProactivMD is designed to be used consistently for best results.
Use twice daily, morning and night. Treat your whole face avoiding eye area. Apply a generous amount to dampened skin and gently massage with fingertips for 1-2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Apply to cleansed skin with a cotton ball or pad in an upward motion, morning and night as needed, allowing Balancing Toner to dry before moving on to the next step. If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
Apply to face and neck as needed. Can be used under makeup. Apply liberally prior to sun exposure. Reapply at least every 2 hours. Children under 6 months: ask your doctor.
Adults and children 12 years of age and older: Use once daily. Clean the skin gently and pat dry before applying the product. Cover the entire affected area with a thin layer. Children under 12 years of age: ask your doctor.

NOTE: It is HIGHLY recommended that you use a moisturizer following your use of Adapalene Gel. If your skin is sensitive, you can apply the moisturizer before the Adapalene Gel.
It won't happen to everyone, but it is worth mentioning retinization, the adjustment period in which the skin becomes acclimated to Adapalene Gel. During this time skin may become red, flaky and irritated. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you use a moisturizer to help relieve symptoms of retinization which typically begin to subside around week 4 of your retinoid treatment.
Pro Tip: Some users may notice a reaction. Just be patient with your skin right now as it’s undergoing a lot of changes. Also be sure to stay moisturized and use sunscreen.
Pro Tip: If you’re one of the people who feel dry, be sure to use a moisturizer. Just make sure it’s one that doesn’t contain an active acne ingredient.

Reminder: We can’t stress it enough: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Use an SPF moisturizer by day and a light moisturizer without an acne active at night.
Some, but not all users may experience dryness, redness, irritation - known as retinization -- while your skin adjusts to Adapalene Gel. The best defense is to generously hydrate with a moisturizer both day and night as part of your skincare regimen.
Retinization is a normal part of the process and side effects typically start to subside by Week 4.
